How to use LEDEdit-K Software with Online Controller

LEDEdit-K software is a version of LEDEdit that is specifically designed for “K” version Pixel LED controllers. The T-600K controller and these controllers are designed to operate both online and on the T-300K, T-400K, T-500K, T-600K, and so on. But it also supports a few additional controllers, such as the T-1000 controllers. In prior articles, I discussed the offline side of the software tutorial; in this tutorial, we will look at the online side of the software. To use this software mode in online mode, we'll need a controller like the T-300K, T-400K, T-500K, or T-600K.

For this tutorial, I'll be using a T-400K controller. Please visit this page for more information on the T-300K controller's online mode.

Use the T-400K Controller

In this tutorial, I'll be using the LEDEdit-K 2024 V10.1. If you do not already have the LEDEdit-K software, please download the most recent version from the link below.

Create a new project in LEDEdit-K

To start a new project, launch the LEDEdit-K software, click “File“, and then choose “New“. By doing so, the new project window will open. When creating the LED layout, select the controller type you intend to use from the “Controller Type” list and enter the maximum number of lights you intend to use per port in the “Maximum number of lights per port” field. If the number you enter exceeds the maximum number of lights you specified, the controller will change automatically. For the maximum number of lights per port, please check your controller's user manual.

To save the project, click the “Browse” button, then locate a place. In the “New Project” window, click “OK” once again.

Create LED Layout in LEDEdit-K

It's time to create an LED layout now that we've completed our LEDEdit project. The physical layout of your LEDs is represented by LED layout. For the sake of simplicity, we will cover how to create a panel that looks like an LED layout in this tutorial. In this tutorial, I'll create a simple LED panel layout using LED Edit's “Automatic layout maker“. Click on the links below to learn how to create customized LED layouts.

Automatic layout creator tool icon

Click “Edit Layout” on the left-side panel if you use LEDEdit 2024 V10.1. This will open the layout editor window. In the top menu bar, click the “Automatic layout creator tool” icon. The “Automatic layout creator” window will show up as a result. If you're running v3.53.1, go to the side panel and click the “Automatic Layout” icon (as shown in the above image).

Automatic layout window

The “LED connection type” drop-down list in the Automatic Layout Creator window may be used to specify an LED connection type (you can choose whatever you like). The number of LEDs you intend to use should be entered in the side text fields for width and height. Click “OK“. To place the newly produced LED panel, just click anywhere in the workspace. The layout editor window should now be closed (if you are using v4.0).

Automatically generated panel

Click on “Settings” in the top menu bar and select “Controller Settings“. in the controller settings window. Select the control chip of the LED strip or string you are about to use. Using the control chip drop-down list This window will also allow you to change channel order, choose the type of LEDs you are about to use, change the white levels (if supported), make brightness adjustments for each channel, and view the current settings for the chips. You can play around with those settings to understand how they work. Then press the “OK” button.

Programming

We've finished designing our LED layout. It's now time to program or broadcast a live video or animation. Connect the LED controller to the PC and configure the network adapter settings on your computer. Please refer to my previous article here. There are several ways to go online for online control.

Playing an animation or video live

playing animation or video

Click the “Program” tab, then at the bottom of the panel, check “Real-time” Display.

Real-time display check box in program tab

When you click on the “Effect” tab, several options are accessible. Select an effect from the library of effects or select a video or animation from your computer. I'm going to use animation on my computer to do this. To open an animation or video file, click “Open Video“, then browse and select it.

The animation or video will now be shown in the work area. The animation or video will be playing on the physical display if everything is OK.

To check the network status, click on “Settings” and select “Open Network Monitoring Panel“, where the status of each controller is shown in front of the controller ID. If everything is in order, you will see the words “connected” or “disconnected“. If you didn't receive any positive results, double-check your cables and network setup.

Simply follow the second step in the animation or video to change it. Simply press the “Close Video Capture” button to stop the animation if necessary.

Screen Real Time Play

Check the “Real-time” display tab after clicking the “Program” tab at the bottom of the panel.

Select screen capture by clicking the “Effect” tab. A small window with a slightly transparent red mask will appear. That transparent area is where you will share or display information on the physical display. This window could be:

  • Moved: Drag your mouse to the desired position by left-clicking on the window's top title bar and releasing your mouse button when you arrive.
  • Resized: Get your mouse cursor on top of the border (the cursor icon will change to “resize border“), then left-click and drag your mouse until you reach the desired size. You may resize the window by clicking and dragging the mouse on the corners.

Simply press the “Close Video Capture” button on the right panel to stop the animation if necessary.

That's all. To work with online controllers, this is how you use the LEDEdit-K software.
